Foundations of School Readiness

Jamie Buskey and Carlene Sherbourne will lead attendees in the track Foundations of School Readiness. Two expert Education Managers, they will explore play as a foundation for high quality early education and school readiness. All are welcome, whether you have been in the education field for 3 weeks, 3 years, or 30 years. The morning session will focus on theories of high quality early childhood education and child development and the afternoon will allow attendees to engage in hands on practical applications.

Meet The Presenters:

Carlene Sherbourne

Education Manager, Worcester Child Development Head Start

Carlene Sherbourne is the education manager for the Worcester Child Development Head Start Program where she successfully instituted the Reggio approach within the programs. During her career, she has been a strong advocate for the rights of children, families, and educators. Carlene values working collaboratively with others, creating safe spaces for people to share ideas and perspectives. Carlene received her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Northeastern University. Her research focused on the coaching experiences of early childhood educators.

Jamie Buskey (she/her/hers)

Preschool Education Coordinator, ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services

Jamie has dedicated her more than two decade career to supporting young children and families in Boston. A graduate of Boston College with degrees in Early Childhood Education and Psychology, she spent ten years in the classroom supporting the growth and development of preschool-aged children. After completing her graduate degree in Child Development and Early Childhood Education, Jamie moved into administrative roles and joined Head Start in 2013. Over the last ten years she has served as a Center Director and is now the Preschool Education Coordinator for ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services, the largest Head Start grantee in New England, overseeing the educational services for over 2,000 children annually. She has served on the board of the Boston Family Engagement Network, was a founding board member of the Boston Children’s Fund, and is currently Adjunct Faculty at Urban College of Boston. Jamie recently completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Research, Policy and Practice at UMass Boston, focusing on supporting the professional development of early educators.
